You glide through the water
While my fingernails dig fearfully
Into the palm of my hand
I reach out to you, spreading my fingers wide
Letting you slide through my grasp
Daring you to strike, fearful of the coil
I feel your strength with the ebb and flow of
Your movements and your underwater slither
Has my heart quickening, adrenaline pouring
Through my arms, the expectation in my mind
Has me fear the worst -
A strike, calmly squeezing my waist
As if your lover's caress was barely aware
Of the crushing of my ribs. My breath quickens
Then slows my pulse barely thrumming
Against my throat.
I can taste the stagnant marsh
As my flesh contorts. The green waters
Pass my lips until I drown in the tears of the river.
