2 1/2 week until surgery (hysterectomy) and I am so prepared!

My hysterectomy is scheduled soon, and I have prepared myself well. I invested in some ‘toys’ that I will need for recovery. First up – a hysterectomy recovery pillow! This thing is amazing! I have been wearing it around today to get used to it – yes – I said – WEARING IT! It has a neck strap (with cushion) and a strap that goes around the waist to hold the pillow in place over your incision sites! It came with a gel cool/heating pad as well. See below for photo!

Aside from that, I rearranged my bedroom, invested in a new mattress for sleeping better, and stocked up on books and Nintendo Switch video games to keep me occupied for the recovery period. Of course, I always have my Website and writing to keep me busy, but I don’t want to get bored. Six weeks is a long recovery!

I also did a lot of cleaning and decluttering over the past week. I got rid of my hope chest. Let me say that again cause I still can’t believe it. I GOT RID OF MY HOPE CHEST. Actually, I gave it to one of my nieces, but either way it is out of my bedroom. Which means – I had to go through every memory kept in there since I was a baby through now, and decide what to let to go of and what to keep.

The point is, my bedroom is smallish and I can’t keep everything even if I want to. So I after I simpered over my collection of stuff, I did the unthinkable. I threw it in the trash. Bye bye, baby hair from my first haircut. Bye bye, my very first tooth, and goodbye to those adorable leather baby booties that I used to wear. I also said goodbye to report cards, old paintings, newspaper clippings, and so much more.

What did I keep? I have a small cloth bin, that I decided – if it fits – I can keep it. In that went my sister’s writing stuff, my Army and High school yearbooks, and cookbooks that my mother made for me and my sister with quotes and more inside.

It’s been both a bit melancholy to do this, as well as shockingly refreshing! I feel lighter and prepared for anything right now. I still have a bit more cleaning to do before the surgery, like deep cleaning the bathroom, but I am not worried any more at least not about my recovery. I am still a little nervous for the surgery itself, but I understand I won’t be awake, so that’s a positive!
